The Nizam of Hyderabad wished to remain independent by signing the Standstill Agreement and not the Instrument of Accession. Finally, after failed negotiations, the Government of India took the decision to send the Indian Army to Hyderabad - code-named Operation Polo.

That does not mean that we shall ever agree to Hyderabad’s independence.
